The Keeping
Privacy Policy
Effective 2026 · Applies to The Keeping for iPhone.
The Keeping is built on a simple idea: what you write about the books, films, shows, and podcasts you’ve finished is yours, and it should stay that way. This policy explains, plainly, how the app handles your information. There is not much to explain — which is the point.
The Keeping collects no data. Everything you enter is stored only on your device. The app makes no network connections, has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. On the App Store, this is reflected as “Data Not Collected.”
What stays on your device
When you log an entry — a title, a creator, a type, a rating, tags, and your written reflection — that information is saved locally on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device database. It never leaves your device through the app. The app does not upload, sync, back up, or transmit your entries anywhere.
What we don’t do
- We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information.
- We do not require an account, an email address, or a sign-in.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising, or third-party SDKs that collect data.
- We do not make network requests — the app works fully offline.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, location, or microphone.
- We do not sell or share data, because we never collect any.
App settings
The app stores a few of your preferences — such as your chosen accent color and display options — locally on your device using iOS’s standard settings storage (UserDefaults). These are simple local settings. They stay on your device and are not transmitted anywhere.
Device backups
Because your entries are stored on your device, they may be included in your own iPhone backups if you have iCloud Backup or encrypted local backups turned on in iOS. Those backups are managed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy, not by The Keeping, and are controlled entirely by your own device settings. The Keeping itself never sends your data to iCloud or anywhere else.
Children’s privacy
The Keeping does not collect any data from anyone, including children. No personal information is gathered from users of any age.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects how data is handled — for example, if optional cloud sync is added in a future version — this policy will be updated before that feature ships, and the change will be described here. Any such feature would be clearly optional and off by default.
